Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US average reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
